Alex Deusan: Hi and welcome to Electronic Republika interview series! First of all please tell us a bit about yourself.

Lady Maru: I started basically as underground post punk no wave musician, I play mainly techno now, but I still love many genres,including old dub music, soul music and exotica…

Alex Deusan: How do you start your musical journey and what do you think was the most important moment until now? When did you decide to be a DJ?

Lady Maru: I started touring around with post punk bands, playing guitar, some voice and some casio 2002 I started to buy electronic vinyls and I started playing them at the end of  a very good queer underground party in my hometown Rome.

Alex Deusan: What are your big influences as a DJ as well as a music producer? Name five artists.

Lady Maru: I always loved , since I started Thomas P Heckmann, Thomas Brinkmann, the Horrorist, Dusty Kid, Paul Nazca

Alex Deusan: What are the things that inspire you for your music and mixes?

Lady Maru: For my actual mixes and  music I like the energy, and I like so much fast techno with special acid lines  and if possible with some vocals that say smart or strange things!

Alex Deusan: How is your searching for new tracks process and from where you take your tracks?

Lady Maru: I use all normal  websites beatport, or special distributors like clone, then youtube and bandcamp  looking for artist I already now and checking the new ones for instance in a genre I like..

Alex Deusan: The perfect day for you is…

Lady Maru: Mild temperature, sunshine, a good concert in the evening

Alex Deusan: How do you like your music? Vinyl or digital?

Lady Maru: I m not a vinyl dj, but of course I like the fetish part of it, I m willing to start a label , and I will have to do some vinyls too, it s like books..or culture that will remain … but I don t play them anymore since 2005 maybe…

Alex Deusan: What is your DJ setup? How about your studio setup?

Lady Maru: Dj or traktor  or usual pioneer cdjs

Studio tb 3, jdx1, ableton, mininova…

Alex Deusan: What are the best and worst things about being a DJ/Producer in 2019? What do you consider to be the easiest and hardest things?

Lady Maru: Hardest things is living out of that especially in Italy, easiest things is that not all, but many label can listen to your music even if you live  far away..

Alex Deusan: Your favorite food and drink?

Lady Maru: I m vegan straight edge, so green vegetables and smoothies..

Alex Deusan: How about films and books?

Lady Maru: Books maybe liteature of the 60ies, 70ies is the one I like most, movies too, I like some modern stuff as well, but not so much the computerized ones.

Alex Deusan: Samples or originals for your music production?

Lady Maru: I don t use so many  samples, just for remixes…

Alex Deusan: Last track that blew your mind?

Lady Maru: It s not techno but I love recently  Gui Boratto Ame remix “This is not the End “

Alex Deusan: What do you want to happen with your music career in the future?

Lady Maru: Leaving better out of that

Alex Deusan: What is next for you?

Lady Maru: Maybe moving to berlin

Lady Maru: I really hope never to stop with all that I do, including live music!
